This is the daily classroom agenda for Paxton Center School Grade 7 Science. Lesson plans, homework, and other relevant information will be posted here each class.
Please listen to the following instructions.
Clear all materials from your desk area.
You are only permitted an erasable writing tool.
Turn your phone off. Store it in your bag.
Reseat your self as needed so you are not next to anyone.
Please do not leave your seat unless given permission to do so.
When finished, raise your hand to have your exam collected.
Once everyone is appropriately seated, I will pass out the exams.

Organized by week.
What is temperature?
How does kinetic energy relate to temperature?
how does the kinetic energy of particles in a sample of matter change when temperature increases? Decreases?
Review p. 458: What is thermal energy?
In what way is temperature related to but different from thermal energy?
How is temperature measured/how does a bulb thermometer work?
Copy and fill in the data table below for different temperature scales.
What is absolute zero?
Programming Spreadsheet Data Analysis
First, remove any data where the temperature went up after time zero.

Investigation Questions:
How does time affect cooling?
How does air temperature affect cooling?
Investigation Questions:
How does time affect cooling?
How does air temperature affect cooling?
Students to analyze How does_______ affect a hot drink cooling? responses.
Assess data for questions relating to climate/room temperature and cooling
count/hilight
formulate experiment ideas/plan.
Metric Conversion Practice
Write the sentence King H……
Convert 357 dL into Liters
Convert 12.65 kN into Newtons
Investigation Questions:
How does time affect cooling?
How does air temperature affect cooling?
Experimental Method:
Student groups of 2-3
Each group will collect data at an assigned station, tracking the change in temperature of a hot sample of water over time for 30 minutes.
200 ml samples of hot water in 250ml beakers will be mounted on lab stands and measured with lab thermometers every minute.
Data will be recorded by each student.
The entire class will also collect data on one sample placed in a refrigerator during the experiment.
A thermometer will be used to measure the air temperature of the refrigerator..
A second thermometer will measure the water temperature of the sample.
All data will be entered into a spreadsheet for analysis.
In what way does matter have kinetic energy?
In what way does matter have potential energy?
In what way does matter have mechanical energy?
What is thermal energy?

What is potential energy?
Potential energy (PE) —> Stored Energy
??How Stored??
Gravitational: gravity, height, mass
Chemical: food and fuels in molecules
Elastic: springs and rubber bands
What is kinetic energy?
Kinetic Energy —> motion energy
??What affects it??
mass, speed
faster/higher mass —> more KE
slower/less mass —> less KE
What is mechanical energy?
Sum of KE+ PE
What is matter made out of?
Particles
atoms
molecules
