Class time is for learning. Please respect this by coming prepared and following these guidelines. If you are ready and I am still busy, please quietly read over your work, notes, or complete other homework until I begin class.
During Class
I maintain a daily agenda that is posted on this website. We will use this on the smart board and Chromebooks to organize and pace our lesson.
Daily Expectations
Paxton Center School seeks to create a positive and welcoming learning environment for all students. We achieve this by focusing on the three R’s: Respectful, Responsible, and Reliable.
Respect other students, classroom aides, and myself by acting with kindness and politeness at all times.
Be responsible for your own work and your own actions.
Be reliable by consistently being ready to learn, doing your best work, and maintaining respect for our school, peers, and staff at all times.
Pro-tips:
Respect the speaker and raise your had if you want to contribute or ask a questions.
Try to improve and sustain your focus on class. Need to stretch? Stand at your seat and stay in the game while you do it.
Try to leave personal business outside - see me if you have an issue and we can problem solve.
Read the room. Before asking a personal question, ask your self:
“Is this relevant to what the class is doing and is this the right time?”
Class is not time to organize your things. come organized so you can focus on learning. Need help? Let’s meet during homeroom block and work on it together!
Cell Phones
Cell phones should be off and stored at all times. Please do not use them unless you get permission from an adult. Sometimes you may be asked to use them as part of a lesson. Use them only as instructed and turn them off/put them away when finished or leaving. Is something going on and you need to communicate with home? See me and we will figure it out.
Personal Needs
I ask you to meet your personal needs in a responsible and respectful manner. Responsible means you familiarize yourself with the expectations below. Respectful means that you follow through with meeting your needs without taking away from our class time. This is done by following these guidelines without needing reminders.
Bathroom use: Hold up your homework agenda. Pay attention to me, I will likely only gesture or nod. Respect the bathroom by being clean and neat. Return to class promptly without side trips.
Pencil sharpening: My pencil sharpener is located in the back of the lab. If you need to use it, please do so and return to your seat. Only one person at the sharpener at a time please.
Need a writing tool: If you do not have an appropriate writing tool, please ask a neighbor before class begins. This is a daily responsibility and you must meet this need without my assistance. Class readiness is part of your grade.
Missed Class/Need Work: Students who have had an absence should use the class website to identify the work that was missed. I generally cannot assist you during class when a lesson is in progress or about to begin. Email me or see me during the homeroom block for assistance and plan to come in early or stay after if you need additional help.
Emergencies
Fire alarm: Immediately stopped talking and line up by the main door. Maintain silence and follow instructions from adults. It is important to be quiet and orderly so we can check lists, locate all students and communicate to administration and first responders.
Lock-down: Immediately stop talking and look at the teacher. In silence follow instructions from adults. We will responds to lockdowns according to the schools safety plan and the nature of the circumstances.
Leaving Class
You may begin packing your materials when I indicate class has ended.
Please leave by the middle door only.
Hallway behavior must be safe and respectful at all times.
