Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Day 4

Do Now:

Open your notes from Friday in google Classroom please.

Homework:

Complete the first three density problems (passed out) in FDSS format.

  • Neat work

  • Proper heading at the top

  • In your notebook - ready to pass in tomorrow.

Today’s Agenda:

Grades in for 1st two assignments - email and notes

Please make up missing work ASAP - see board

Class Notes: Matter and Materials (Cont’d from 9/1)

  1. Matter - anything that has mass and takes up space

    • made of atoms

    • all solids, liquids and gasses are made of matter

  2. Material - Matter with homogenous properties that a something is or can be made of.

    • homogeneous - the same everywhere

    • properties - observable qualities or characteristics

    • Examples of observable properties

    • Examples of materials:

  3. Density (a property of materials) - how tightly packed the matter in a material is.

    • How can we test/calculate/measure it?

    • formula

    • example

  4. Volume - how much space an object takes up

    • Rectagular solids formula: V = L x W x H

    • Example

Lab Practice

  1. Assign Lab Station

  2. As team:

    • measure length, width, height and calculate volume of block.

    • Measure Mass - calculate density of block

    • return block and repeat with a new sample.
