  • Eukaryotes grow by cell division

    • makes more cells - get larger

    • also for repair of damage

  • Mitosis is process for cell division

    • it is asexual reproduction of the cell

      • (not the multicellular organism)

    • 1st DNA is copied into two identical sets

    • Then each set separates and forms two identical nuclei

      • with identical chromosomes

    • Cell divides in two

  • occurs via various methods

  • fast reproduction

  • no need for mate - less time/energy

  • get to pass on all your genes - not half with a mate

Disadvantages

  • low/no genetic diversity

  • all offspring may be susceptible to a change in conditions
