Class Notes: Conductors, Insulators, and Transferring Electrons
Conductor
any material electrons can move through easily
all metals
used commonly in wiring foe all electrical technology
Insulator
any material that electrons cannot move through easily
glass, rubber, air
used for protection in safety and electrical equipment
Transferring charge
Contact - rubbing an insulator on another and removing electrons through adhesion
Conduction - electrons moving though metals such a s wires
always flows for object with a high charge toward lower charge
flow until charge is equalized
Induction - polarization of a conductor when a charge object is placed near it
Charges in the conductor flow away from a negatively charge object and group up at far end
gives the conductor opposing negative and positive poles.
