Thermal Energy, Temperature, and Heat Vocabulary Quiz.

Pass out quiz papers (up front).

All students to seperate - no students next to another using couters, tables, and lab space to disperse as needed.

Collect quizes and bundle by class.

Student Independent Work:

All students to graph their lab data from Friday’s Lab

  • How do different materials affect the flow of heat?

  1. The graph must:

  2. Include both temperatures on the same graph.

  3. Have correct time and temperature scales that go from:

    • Yaxis: 10 deg. C to 80 deg. C

    • x axis: 0 to 20 minutes

    • Plot in portrait orientation.

    • Keep a 4-5 block empty margin on all sides.

  4. Plot both data sets in color with a key to identify which temperature is which.

  5. Plot as a scatter plot then connect the points.

  6. Take care that all titles and axis labels are properly capitalized and include correct units.

Neatness Matters - a lot

If a student finishes early, I will have an additional wrap up assignment in Google Classroom.  It is for class management purposes only at the guest teacher’s discretion.

Heat - the flow of thermal energy from one body to another.

  • The rate of heat flow is affected by the temperature difference.

  • Big temp difference - heat flows quickly.

  • Small temp. difference - heat flows slowly.

  • When there is not temperature difference, no heat flows. Equilibrium!

How do different materials affect the flow of heat?

  1. Introduce containers.

  2. Students to rank and describe their ranking in GC.
